One encouraging result of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic is that it has elevated public awareness of the crisis of chronic disease—those underlying conditions so often associated with worse outcomes—and the urgent need to address it.

Cooking, Chronic Pain & Medicine Cabinet Must-Haves
We’re discussing relief for those who suffer from chronic pain, medicine cabinet must-haves, and fearless cooking in the kitchen with new cookware technology.
One in 5 Americans are battling long-term pain — with only 7,000 pain-focused doctors in our country to support them. Now, there’s a new company focused on championing people who suffer from chronic pain, enabling their journey back to a full and vibrant life.
Many people have New Year’s resolutions to quit smoking or control their cravings associated with quitting smoking.
GoodSense offers various products to help you quit.
Founded in 1985, Circulon pioneered the industry by creating the first hard-anodized nonstick cookware — and now they are reinventing the category again with SteelShield™.
Dr. Frates talks about Lifestyle Medicine on The Balancing Act
Data from a survey conducted by National Health Interview Survey shows that in 2019, 20.4% of adults had chronic pain and 7.4% of adults had chronic pain that frequently limited life or work activities.
On the show, Dr. Frates talks about how lifestyle medicine can help those suffering from chronic pain with pain management.
Dr. Frates says, "Power of the mind and the body can be utilized to manage chronic pain. Chronic pain is complex. We use an approach that integrates lifestyle medicine principles from the get-go. Everyone's pain is unique and together we can build an individualized treatment plan that will really help you relieve this pain."

IMPROVING PROVIDER HEALTH & HAPPINESS

A 6 hour course on health and happiness provided for free at Mass General Brigham. It was created by Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Mass General Hospital with a mini-grant from the MGH MGPO Frigoletto Committee. It's all about a healthy body, peaceful mind and joyful heart with lots of research behind the six pillars of lifestyle medicine as well as attitude, positive psychology, timeouts, energy and purpose.
I just finished this course. I thought it was excellent! It was both inspirational and motivating. I had the opportunity to do it while at home healing from [an injury] and it really provided me with the opportunity to evaluate my life and health and commit to making changes as I recover.
I really appreciated all of the reading/book recommendations so that I can delve deeper into some of the topics.
I wish that there had been something like this available to me during my training or earlier in my career.
A note from a physician who took the course
